Heritage Spotlight Series - Capturing the Memory of a Community: The Photos of Claude Marcotte

Eastern Shore Heritage Spotlight Series

Every Thursday, at 7 PM in the Clam Factory, local history experts and enthusiasts will present a ½ hour illustrated “talk” on a local history topic followed by a brief Q&A. Bar service will be available for those who wish to enjoy a spirited beverage along with their history lesson.

There is no additional charge to attend these talks beyond regular admission, however seating is limited so reservations are required. (Society members get free admission).

August 19th - Capturing the Memory of a Community: The Photos of Claude Marcotte

In the presentation, I hope to inform the audience about who Claude is and what he did during his time in Sheet Harbour, especially of course, his role as the de facto community photographer. I also hope to touch on the way he has been systematically scanning & sharing his photos with me so they can subsequently be shared on social media and how that process has been effective as a means of community engagement some 40 years later. Finally, I intend to share images of a number of iconic or well remembered buildings/structures that are no longer part of the physical landscape. Of course, the entire presentation will feature photos taken by Claude during the time he lived in Sheet Harbour.

Presented by Barry Smith.

Regular Heritage Village admission rates will apply when you arrive, unless you are purchasing a Suppertime Meal Ticket

All buildings will be open for a self-guided Evening Tour, just like visiting during the day.
